VA Section Head
The VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and University of Washington (UW) are recruiting a Section Head for the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) based at VAPSHCS. As Section Head of the VAPSHCS GIM Division, the candidate will oversee academic and administrative operations (in conjunction with service line leadership) for the Division. The VA GIM Section Head reports directly to the University of Washington GIM Division Head. This is a full-time (100% FTE) staff physician position based at the VA Puget Sound with a faculty appointment as either an Associate or full Professor (without tenure due to funding) in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine.
UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. This position will have primarily outpatient clinical responsibilities, with the option of inpatient clinical work at the VA Puget Sound, and will work with and teach trainees in both of these settings. Director, Occupational and Environmental Medicine Program (Harborview Medical Center)
The Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is seeking applicants for a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position based in the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Program (OEM), based at Harborview Medical Center (HMC). The selected applicant will serve as the Program Director for OEM, a joint activity of the Department of Medicine in the School of Medicine (SoM) and the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences in the School of Public Health (DEOHS/SPH). In addition to this leadership role for OEM, this position would provide high quality clinical care in the OEM Clinic at HMC, mentor trainees in clinical and research settings, teach classes in SPH, and conduct scholarly activities.
Requirements include an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent), at least two years of training in a relevant clinical specialty, and board eligibility/certification in preventive medicine (occupational medicine) (or foreign equivalent). Eligibility for a Washington State medical license is required. The anticipated start date would be January 1, 2023. A joint appointment in the School of Public Health’s Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences or other relevant departments is anticipated. This position will have the title Associate Professor/Full Professor or Clinical Associate Professor/Clinical Full Professor, depending on qualifications and preference. Research Positions
Senior Epidemiologist
The Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is seeking applicants for a full-time research faculty position based out of Harborview Medical Center (HMC). This position would work closely with Dr. Paul Crane and investigators from the Adult Changes in Thought (ACT) study and its network of ancillary studies focused on epidemiological investigations impacting older adults in general and neurodegenerative conditions in particular. Outpatient Positions
Assistant Professor, Physician/Scientist (Harborview Medical Center)
The Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position based out of Harborview Medical Center (HMC). This position would have research and clinical responsibilities at Harborview Medical Center. This position will be at the Assistant Professor rank (without tenure due to funding) on the physician/scientist pathway. Assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period. The earliest start date would be October 1, 2023. The position may include clinical care responsibilities in the Pioneer Square Clinics (multiple locations), After Care Clinic, and/or Addiction Medicine Consultation Service. Clinical and teaching duties may include primary patient care, resident and student supervision, and up to four weeks of inpatient attending on the medicine ward teaching service.
Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and at least a Master's degree (or foreign equivalent). Applicants must also have board certification in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent). Eligible candidates must have an established record of at least one year as a teacher in a university setting, with both medical students and residents, and show evidence of scholarly productivity and peer-reviewed publications of original studies. They must also have (1) a history of NIH/other grant funding or (2) have participated in an academic fellowship and/or advanced degree program with an emphasis on clinical investigation. Ambulatory Care Provider (Women’s Health Care Center)
The Division of General Internal Medicine is seeking applicants for a full-time (0.5 to 1.0 FTE) faculty position to be based at the Women’s Health Care Center (WHCC). The position will be at the Clinical Instructor, Clinical Assistant Professor, or Clinical Associate Professor level. This position will involve serving as a primary care provider at the WHCC and teaching and precepting residents and students, with optional inpatient attending of two to four weeks per year at UWMC –Montlake.
Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent) and must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Working on Our Medical Campuses
Harborview Medical Center (HMC)
The Hospital Medicine Program at HMC offers daytime and/or night-time positions for full- or part-time academic internists. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to providing high value care to the patients of HMC in the spirit of service to our community’s most vulnerable populations with a special dedication to improving health systems, medical education, and scholarship.
Daytime hospitalists will have the opportunity to work on a variety of clinical services ranging from primary medicine services, consultative medicine, and perioperative medicine services, with opportunities to interact with students and residents from a variety of departments.
Nighttime hospitalists will work with a team of residents and students to provide nighttime coverage for the hospitalist teams and ensure critical attending coverage during the evening.

University of Washington Medical Center – Montlake (UWMC – Montlake)
The Hospital Medicine Program at UWMC – Montlake consists of the Hospital Medicine Service and Medicine Consult Service. These services offer daytime and/or nighttime positions for full- or part-time academic internists. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellence in clinical care and a commitment to academic medicine with an interest in teaching, quality improvement work, or research.
Duties on the Medicine Consult Service include patient care, perioperative medical consultation, and teaching in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Duties on the Hospital Medicine Service include patient care and teaching on the general medicine wards. Some applicants may choose a blend of consultative and hospital medicine duties.
University of Washington Medical Center – Northwest (UWMC – NW)
The Hospital Medicine Program at UWMC – NW offers daytime and/or nighttime positions for full or part-time internists seeking to practice at a community hospital within an academic system. Three different types of positions are available on the Hospitalist team at UWMC – NW: primarily daytime hospitalist positions, night hospitalist positions, and night ICU positions. For all, successful applicants will demonstrate excellence in patient care, willingness to contribute to quality improvement, dedication to teamwork, and commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration.
Hospitalists at UWMC – NW provide inpatient care for a broad scope of patients in consulting and attending roles. While UWMC – NW campus is primarily focused on the clinical care of patients, it does offer teaching opportunities as well. For those specifically interested in nighttime General Hospitalist work, nocturnist positions are available.
A separate position is that of the Night ICU Hospitalist. Physicians in this role will work 9-hour overnight shifts primarily admitting to and covering patients in the ICU. Applicants will be expected to perform procedures including central line placement and paracentesis, but would not be asked to intubate. Additional training in these procedures would be available if needed. Successful applicants should have an interest in cultivating critical care skills, but will have access to a pulmonary and critical care specialist for additional support.
VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS)
The Hospital Medicine Program at VAPSHCS offers daytime and/or nighttime positions for full- or part-time academic internists. Successful applicants will demonstrate a dedication to excellent care of the Veteran population and a commitment to academic medicine with an interest in teaching, quality improvement work, and/or research.
Daytime hospitalists will work on the Purple team (duties include direct patient care, triage, medicine consultation, and teaching trainees) as well as medicine attending on the resident teaching services.
Nocturnists will work on the Night Medicine Service, which provides night coverage for the Hospital Medicine Service, including the Medical Intensive Care Unit. The Night Medicine team includes one attending physician plus an internal medicine senior resident allowing for one-on-one teaching opportunities.
Qualifications
Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification* in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent). (*Note: Board certification in Internal Medicine must be completed within two years after residency.)
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. University sponsorship is not possible for a J-1 visa or EB visas for permanent residence.
For VAPSHCS applicants: Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
