Hospitalist and Consultative Medicine
Multiple full-time or part-time positions are available with flexible start dates in Summer 2026 through Fall 2027. The open positions are at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor level on the clinical and Professor of Clinical Practice faculty tracks. Harborview Medical Center (HMC)
The Hospital Medicine Program at HMC offers daytime and/or night-time positions for full- or part-time academic internists. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to providing high value care to the patients of HMC in the spirit of service to our community’s most vulnerable populations with a special dedication to improving health systems, medical education, and scholarship.
Daytime hospitalists will have the opportunity to work on a variety of clinical services ranging from primary medicine services, consultative medicine, and perioperative medicine services, with opportunities to interact with students and residents from a variety of departments.
Nighttime hospitalists will work with a team of residents and students to provide nighttime coverage for the hospitalist teams and ensure critical attending coverage during the evening.

University of Washington Medical Center – Montlake (UWMC – Montlake)
The Hospital Medicine Program at UWMC – Montlake consists of the Hospital Medicine Service and Medicine Consult Service. These services offer daytime and/or nighttime positions for full- or part-time academic internists. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellence in clinical care and a commitment to academic medicine with an interest in teaching, quality improvement work, or research.
Duties on the Medicine Consult Service include patient care, perioperative medical consultation, and teaching in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Duties on the Hospital Medicine Service include patient care and teaching on the general medicine wards. Some applicants may choose a blend of consultative and hospital medicine duties.
University of Washington Medical Center – Northwest (UWMC – NW)
The Hospital Medicine Program at UWMC – NW offers daytime and/or nighttime positions for full or part-time internists seeking to practice at a community hospital within an academic system. Three different types of positions are available on the Hospitalist team at UWMC – NW: primarily daytime hospitalist positions, night hospitalist positions, and night ICU positions. For all, successful applicants will demonstrate excellence in patient care, willingness to contribute to quality improvement, dedication to teamwork, and commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration.
Hospitalists at UWMC – NW provide inpatient care for a broad scope of patients in consulting and attending roles. While UWMC – NW campus is primarily focused on the clinical care of patients, it does offer teaching opportunities as well. For those specifically interested in nighttime General Hospitalist work, nocturnist positions are available.
A separate position is that of the Night ICU Hospitalist. Physicians in this role will work 9-hour overnight shifts primarily admitting to and covering patients in the ICU. Applicants will be expected to perform procedures including central line placement and paracentesis but would not be asked to intubate. Additional training in these procedures would be available if needed. Successful applicants should have an interest in cultivating critical care skills but will have access to a pulmonary and critical care specialist for additional support.
VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS)
The Hospital Medicine Program at VAPSHCS offers daytime and/or nighttime positions for full- or part-time academic internists. Successful applicants will demonstrate a dedication to excellent care of the Veteran population and a commitment to academic medicine with an interest in teaching, quality improvement work, and/or research.
Daytime hospitalists will work on the Purple Team (duties include direct patient care, triage, medicine consultation, and teaching trainees) as well as medicine attending on the resident teaching services.
Nocturnists will work on the Night Medicine Service, which provides night coverage for the Hospital Medicine Service, including the Medical Intensive Care Unit. The Night Medicine team includes one attending physician plus an internal medicine senior resident allowing for one-on-one teaching opportunities.
Qualifications
Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification* in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent). (*Note: Board certification in Internal Medicine must be completed within two years after residency.)
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. University sponsorship is not possible for a J-1 visa or EB visas for permanent residence.
For VAPSHCS applicants: Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
