Research Interests: Development and evaluation of primary care innovations and care delivery models, with specific topic focus on Veteran care, complex, high-risk, and multimorbid patients, patient-centered care delivery, and care quality and value.
Opportunities for fellows: Opportunities for primary and secondary data analyses or sub-project development on ongoing VA pragmatic clinical trials testing health system innovations in primary care environments (examples of prior trials include testing interventions for improving rates of colorectal cancer screening, comparing electronic screening to in-person screening for behavioral health questionnaires, or comparisons of outreach messaging for vaccination uptake); qualitative or quantitative data projects focused on improving patient-centered care delivery by incorporating patient values and preferences to direct routine care; secondary data analyses related to clinical informatics tool testing and development related to addressing gaps in high-risk patient primary care needs.
Mentoring philosophy: Having completed my UW GIM / VA Health Services Research fellowship in 2019, I have recent lived experience that can relate to many of the administrative, logistic, and learning-related challenges and joys that are part of fellowship, including trying to master the work-life balance to conduct rigorous academics and clinical care. I strive to create open, productive, and high-yield opportunities for mentees with milestones tailored to the unique needs of each mentee. I feel strongly that relationships fostered in academic mentorship are a vital and important part of helping achieve sustainable research careers with high-impact science.
