Research Interests: Improving care for patients with serious illness and their families; addressing health inequities, particularly for immigrant populations; community engagement, shared decision making; use of qualitative research methods
Opportunities for fellows: There are opportunities to for fellows to work on quantitative and qualitative data (interviews, coding, analysis) related to two large studies looking at barriers to palliative care among patients with dementia or advanced cancer and preferred language other than English. Additional opportunities exist for qualitative data analysis of a large database of recorded inpatient goals-of-care discussions among a diverse sample of patients with advanced cancer as well as patient/family and clinician interviews post-discussion.
Mentoring philosophy: As a mentor, I am passionate about helping my mentees gain clarity on the research topics they truly care about and want to pursue. I strive to provide guidance that helps them make meaningful progress toward their goals and offer opportunities for them to develop essential research skills while contributing to ongoing projects. I highly value working with mentees who bring a strong equity-lens to their work, are transparent, and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
