Impactful Scholarship - FDP Winter-Spring 2020-21 Series (PNG)

The 2020–2021 FDP Winter/Spring Impactful Scholarship Series was created to help DGIM faculty who are interested in doing scholarly work alongside their clinical work. The series started with Julie Morath’s discussion of “Inquiry-based scholarship” and concluded with Helene Stark’s “Project launcher” seminar. All the seminars except for Seminar 2 are available for viewing—with the addition of an online module between Seminar 4 and Seminar 5 presented by Helene Starks to help faculty identify project ideas. 


Seminar 1: February 5th – Inquiry-Based Scholarship – Julie Morath

3. How to construct a good question.


Seminar 2: March 5th – Creating a Framework for Impact – Leah Marcotte and Joshua Liao

1. Understand the role of a framework in grounding scholarship in authenticity and societal context
2. Identify principles for creating a framework for impactful scholarship
3. Implement strategies within the framework to achieve scholarship goals


Seminar 3: April 2nd – Case Study 1: Optimizing Resident Education During a Pandemic – Tyler Albert and Paul Cornia

2. Transform clinical and academic interests into scholarship
3. Avoid common pitfalls that can derail productivity


Seminar 4: May 7th – Case Study 2: Creating Expertise in Feedback to Enhance Medical Education – Addie McClintock and Tyra Fainstad

1. Build a project team that balances individual strengths and interests
2. Find what is meaningful and motivating to you – a project could be based on something that you want to learn more about or be better at yourself
3. Be open to how your projects may evolve – areas of focus may change over time
