The goal of this project is to evaluate the accuracy of skin pathology interpretation, emphasizing the classification of dysplastic nevus and early stage melanoma, where previous studies reveal a concerning degree of diagnostic errors.

Reducing Errors in the Diagnosis of Melanoma and Melanocytic Lesions

This research will help to improve the accuracy of pathologists diagnosing melanoma and other melanocytic lesions. Our studies will identify underlying causes of diagnostic errors and guide design of future education and quality improvement efforts. These data are requisite for designing and implementing strategies to reduce the burden of diagnostic errors on patients and health care systems, to safely integrate digitized slides into clinical workflow, and to improve pathology practice.

Improving Melanoma Pathology Accuracy through Computer Vision Techniques - The IMPACT Study

The goal of this project is to improve the accuracy of pathologists diagnosing melanoma and melanocytic lesions by analyzing digitized slides with computer technology.
