Demonstrating all-around excellence, faculty member Nancy Sugg and staff member Kari Black have been nominated for UW-wide honors—the Thorud Leadership Award and a Together We Will Award, respectively.
Recognizing outstanding leadership since 2006, the David Thorud Leadership Award is the highest leadership honor at the University of Washington. Associate Professor Nancy Sugg is one of two faculty nominees. Awardees are chosen based on a variety of criteria that demonstrate leadership, including exhibiting—through project work, team work or other service—innovation, the ability to find practical solutions for complex problems, championing equity in working and learning environments, teamwork and excellent listening skills. The award recipient will be announced officially in April.
Temporarily replacing the Distinguished Staff Awards, the Together We Will Awards were created to celebrate outstanding staff contributions made during the extraordinary challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Grants Manager Kari Black was nominated in recognition of her team leadership, expertise in grants management, and ongoing commitment to helping faculty scientists to secure needed health research funding when it is needed most. Award recipients will be officially announced in late Spring.
