Andrew White, MD is now the Director of the Hospital Medicine Program within GIM. Dr. White has served in this position on an interim basis for the past year.

Dr. White received his undergraduate degree from Princeton and attended medical school at Vanderbilt where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha and received the Deanʼs Award for Service to the Medical School Community and the Canby Robinson Society Award, which is given to the graduate whom classmates would select as their own physician. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine here at the UW after which he was a clinician teacher fellow and chief resident at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System.

He joined the UW faculty as an Acting Instructor in 2008 and is presently an Associate Professor. He directed the Hospital Medicine Service at UWMC from 2011 to 2016. In addition to being widely regarded as a truly outstanding clinician and teacher, he has published widely on a number of topics related to clinical care, health care delivery, and medical informatics. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a senior fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine.

In this position, Dr. White will oversee all aspects of hospital and consultative medicine at UWMC, HMC, and VAPSHCS in collaboration with the respective service chiefs. There are presently 78 faculty in the Division working as hospitalists. He will also be integrally involved in the faculty development program for these faculty.
