GIM faculty are very active with the American College of Physicians at both the local and national levels. Over the past months, their efforts have received recognition from the ACP. 

Professors Thomas Gallagher and Joyce Wipf appointed as Masters of the ACP. Masters are selected for "integrity, positions of honor, eminence in practice or in medical research, or other attainments in science or in the art of medicine."

Assistant Professor Elizabeth Kaplan was the Washington Chapter Clinician-Educator Award winner. Recipients of this award possess excellent clinical skills, dedication to patients, enthusiasm for medical practice and leadership, exceptional teaching and mentoring skills, and the ability to maintain humanity and a healthy balance between professional and personal interests.

Associate Professor Kim O’Connor received the 2019 Washington Chapter Laureate Award. This honor is for Fellows and Masters of the ACP who have demonstrated, by their example and conduct, an abiding commitment to excellence in medical care, education, and research, and service to their community, their chapter, and the ACP.

Professor Douglas Paauw was selected as the 2019–2020 recipient of the Jane F. Desforges Distinguished Teacher Award from the ACP. Established in 1968, this award is bestowed upon a Fellow or Master of the College who has demonstrated the ennobling qualities of a great teacher as judged by the acclaim and accomplishments of former students who have been inspired and have achieved positions of leadership in the field of medical education, primarily as teachers.
